CANTON– At its 60th Annual Member Meeting held at St. Lawrence University’s Eben Holden Conference Center, the Northern New York Library Network (NNYLN) presented Krista Briggs, Director of the Massena Public Library, with its prestigious Excellence in Library Service Award.
The award recognizes Briggs for her commitment to equitable access to information, dedication to lifelong learning, promotion of interlibrary cooperation, and efforts to expand and enrich library services within the community. The citation commended her for “supporting access to information for all, encouraging learning, promoting interlibrary cooperation and sharing, enhancing and expanding library services, and strengthening the library’s role in the community.”
Massena Public Library Board of Trustees President Joseph Savoca praised Briggs’ impact on the library and the town: “The library and the entire Massena community were extremely fortunate to have Krista join us as director two years ago. Her enthusiasm, love of libraries, and dedication to bringing library service to all has improved people’s lives.”
Since assuming the role of Director in July 2023, Briggs has launched a variety of innovative programs, including Healthy Cooking on a Budget and the Youth Garden to Table series in collaboration with Cornell Cooperative Extension. She also initiated Memory Café meetups, offering support and socialization for individuals experiencing memory loss.
Briggs holds a Master of Library and Information Science degree from Syracuse University. She is a current board member of the Northern New York Library Network and the Deep Root Center for Self-Directed Learning, and serves on the Outreach Committee of the Collaborative Summer Library Program.
The Massena Public Library continues to serve the community by fostering literacy, supporting education, and providing access to cultural and lifelong learning opportunities for all ages. For more information, visit the library’s website.
