Kids from the Police Activities League Summer Program, located in Massena, recently spent a day at Fort Tribute in Madrid for its annual return of Civil War Education Day. This is the third year the club has attended, according to Volunteer Fort Tribute Coordinator Scott Wilson. “They were able to experience everything from the loading and firing of a musket, seeing the ‘Care of the Wounded’ at the fort’s hospital, to what is a soldier's haversack as well as the loading and firing of a cannon,” he said.
Fort Tribute is a Civil-War era historical interpretive center located on the grounds of the St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum in Madrid. It also has the only single Civil War monument to recognize the Congressional Medal of Honor recipients from St. Lawrence County that fought in the War 1861-1865.
