POTSDAM -- Mary P. Paul, 94, a longtime resident of Mayfield Drive, passed away early Thursday morning, June 27, 2024, at United Helpers Rehabilitation and Senior Center in Canton.
Mary was born September 16, 1929, in Potsdam, the daughter of the late Lemuel and Iva (Murray) Gebo.
She attended rural school in Hewittville before going to the Condon Campus School.
On July 9, 1953, she married Joseph J. Paul in Angola, Indiana. He predeceased her on December 5, 1978.
Mary worked for many local businesses in the Potsdam community throughout her life, including MH Fishman’s, Woolworths, Suburban Gardner, and the Potsdam Motel.
She was a communicant of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church and enjoyed crocheting, cooking, babysitting, and visiting with friends. She cherished the time she sat on her swing on the front porch, being with her grandchildren, and most of all she loved playing Bingo.
Mary is survived by her children, Joseph Lyle and Janet Paul of Parishville, Richard Louis Paul of Parishville, Kathy Paul (Darell Thompson) of Potsdam, and Steven John Paul of Potsdam; 12 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; her sister, Marjorie Gushlaw of Norfolk; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a son, Charles Lee Paul, a granddaughter, Leah Paul, a great grandson, Garrett Phillips, two brothers, Lyle and Frederick “Ted” Gebo, and a sister, Myrtle Elve.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson-Seymour Funeral Home, Potsdam, however services will be held privately.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Potsdam at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may consider memorial contributions to be made in her memory to be made to the Potsdam Animal Shelter.
