Mary Jane Mowers, 84, Massena

MASSENA -- Mary Jane Mowers passed away peacefully at the Canton Potsdam hospital on Thursday morning April 25, 2025, around 11:00 AM, following a massive stroke. She was surrounded by family at the time of her passing.

Mary is survived by three sons, Carl (Dawna), San Diego, CA, Bradley (Shari), Massena, NY and Timothy (Barbara), Preble, NY. Mary Jane was blessed with seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Also surviving Mary Jane are a brother, Wayne (Sandy) Boyer and sister, Betty Jean (David) Page both of Massena. She was predeceased by her father Ivan, mother Betty and sister Sally.

Mary Jane was born August 2, 1940 to Ivan G and Elisabeth Boyer in Massena NY. She was the second of four children. She attended Massena Central. Marrying Carl E Mowers of Syracuse on July 25, 1959. Moving to Niagara Falls where they began their family. After the marriage ended in the early 70’s Mary Jane returned to Massena where she raised her boys with the help of her parents and Calvary Baptist church family. Mary was a hard worker, she cleaned homes for a living. She was very much appreciated by those she worked for. She also worked for Bath and Body at the St. Lawrence Centre for around 10 years.

She was a faithful member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Massena. She taught Sunday School, hosted missionaries in her home and served as a substitute dorm mother for the Seaway Baptist Bible Institute in Cornwall, Ontario Canada.

She enjoyed cooking, baking and sewing. She loved hummingbirds, caring for plants and reading. Mary Jane loved her family fiercely and prayed for each of them faithfully. To her, the only thing that was sweeter than spending time with her family was her relationship with her Savior Jesus Christ who sustained her and met her every need throughout her life. She continually praised Him, read her Bible, and did not hesitate to share God’s faithfulness to her with anyone she met.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held on Saturday May, 3 at 1:00 PM at the Calvary Baptist Church of Massena. Pastors Colin Lucid, Steven Mowers and Timothy Mowers will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Calvary Baptist Church of Massena, or to the Massena Volunteer Rescue Squad.
