OGDENSBURG -- A Funeral Mass for Manley B. Nipe, age 90 of Ogdensburg will be held on Friday (June 20,2025) at 2:00 p.m. at Notre Dame Church. Entombment will follow at the Oswegatchie Mausoleum.
Visitation will be held also on Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Nipe passed away on Thursday (June 12, 2025) at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Syracuse with his family by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Colburn Benz; children, Kenneth (Holly) Nipe, Spring TX and Sue (Roger) Raven, Ogdensburg NY; stepchildren, Katherine (Richard) Gilsenan of North Carolina, Michael Fitzgerald of Florida, Chris (Kelly May) Benz of Mattydale NY; his sisters, Marlene Kiah, Ogdensburg NY and Vicki (Bob) Savino, Morristown NY. His grandchildren are: Robert (Rachael) Nipe of TX, Krista Raven-Shaver and her husband Thomas of Peru, NY, Matthew (Trina) Nipe of North Dakota, Andrew (Victoria) Raven, Pace, FL, Sam (Jerilee) Nipe of Kansas and Caitlin (Tyler) Litchford of TX; great-grandchildren, Kendrick, Hazel, Abigail, Gideon and Jeriah Nipe and Harper Raven-Shaver, along with many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Nipe was born in Norwich, NY, the son of Kenneth & Vivian (Burwell) Nipe. He attended Ogdensburg schools and was on the OFA Hall of Fame track team. He enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard from 1954 to 1956. He married Cynthia Rivers on May 12, 1956. She predeceased him on August 14, 2006. He later married Nancy Benz on February 14, 2018.
Manley worked construction for several years, Pepsi Cola Bottlers, Sperlings, and retired from United Helpers Nursing Home as the maintenance supervisor after 26 years. As an independent contractor he installed carpet in many homes and businesses in the Ogdensburg area. He also mowed grass for City Parks and Recreation.
He was one of the founding members of Forsyth’s Rifles and Fort de La Presentation. He was a Cub Scout leader and was inducted into the Order of the Arrow.
In his retirement he wintered in Haines City, FL and became a competitive horseshoe pitcher, winning gold at the National Senior Games. He pitched for many years in the Greenbelt Horseshoe League. He loved his summers on the St. Lawrence River where he tended his flower gardens and fished from his Jon boat.
