The Final Farewell

(November 5, 1971- September 11, 2024)

Dear Left Breast,

As I’m sitting here reflecting on our ups and downs of the past 10 years, it got me thinking about the rest of my life and our wild journey together.

It began on November 5, 1971, at Alice Hyde Hospital in Malone, when I was born to my loving parents, Rodney and Brenda Tharrett.
Starting at a young age, when you were just a bud, I wanted to work and earn my own money.
Outside of my many babysitting jobs, my first taste of retail was at Greg & Molly’s in Hopkinton. In the years that followed, I worked at Evans and Whites True Value, Helena General Store, and Bath and Body Works; while attending college full time. This hardwork and dedication ultimately helped me gain the skills and compassion that I would need to navigate my favorite role…TEACHER.

Adaptability, empathy, and patience. Three of the most important qualities to have as a teacher.
All of my students, throughout my 20 years, have brought such joy to my life. I taught them, but I hope they realize I also learned so much from them in return. I am so thankful to have had the
opportunity to teach and learn along side all of my students at Potsdam Central. Being a teacher will always be one of my greatest accomplishments.
Countless hours were spent volunteering, participating in school events, even braving the school talent shows! Making life-long friends with my colleagues along the way.

When you and I weren’t in our teacher role, we were clowning around as “Mimmie” in a group called Small Town Clowns- I must say, we looked pretty good in our rainbow patch getup; served it up on the court for 20 years with the Massena Women’s Volleyball Leauge; and tagged along on some exciting trips to places, like Aruba, Jamaica, and the Dominican with our friends.
I’ll miss the nights of dancing to our favorite local bands, Sudden Impact and Six Foot Midget.

We have loved the fun of summer and the smells of fall, specifically pumpkin! We would eat so much “pumpkin” that we were starting to turn orange! Decorating the house, which is now what we would consider our “dream home,” for different holidays has easily been one of our favorite past-times. A gnome for every season would be peeking out from somewhere.
We have found so much happiness in hanging out with friends, going shopping, out to lunch, and to concerts. You could often find us having game nights and playing Skip-Bo and Qwirkle, and usually winning. There was never a dry eye, whether it be because of heart to hearts or endless laughter. The amazing people we have met on this journey are something we will forever be thankful for.

I am leaving behind my brother, Brian Tharrett, of Nicholville. My loving cousins Sarah (Quinton) Garrand of North Bangor and their sons, Theo and Bridger; Chad (Deanna) Lashomb of Winthrop and their daughters, Emmalyn, Ciera, and Skyler; Angela (Tim) Dickinson of Rochester, MN. Many loving and beautiful friends. my two fur babies, Oliver and Hattie Tharrett of Raymondville. And, though I never had any biological children of my own, I was blessed with three of the most wonderful bonus children, Rachael Ward, of Massena, and Alexis and Lacey Sullivan of Madrid.

I will be reunited with my father, Rodney Tharrett (August 2006) and my best friend and mother, Brenda Tharrett (December 2022).

So, left breast, I suppose this is our final farewell to everyone, right? We were dealt this hand, and we have fought long and strong. But, I know it’s finally okay for us to let go, and be at
peace.

Forever, your loving mom.

A celebration of life has been planned at the Parishville Fire Hall on September 29, 2024 from 1pm-5pm.

Memorial donations can be made in Lynn’s name to the Gouverneur Breast Ovarian Cancer Fund.
