LISBON - With sadness we announce the passing of Lowell A. Nelson. Lowell passed away at home with his loving wife and family by his side. Calling hours will be held at Frary Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on January 25, 2025. Funeral services will be held immediately after the calling hours, with the Reverend Walter Smith officiating.

Lowell Nelson was born on October 31, 1936, in Lisbon, NY, the son of Donald and Dorothy Fields Nelson. Lowell graduated from Lisbon Central School in 1955. He

studied welding at trade school and developed an exceptional skill as a welder. After high school, he joined his father, Don, and grandfather, Gilbert, as a partner on the Nelson family farm. Lowell was a man deeply connected to the earth. He found peace and purpose in tending to his fields, and his hands bore the marks of the soil. As a faithful steward of the land, he stood as a living testament to his resilience and dedication to the family farm.

Lowell was a dedicated businessman and a respected dairy farmer. He raised high- producing dairy cows, beef cattle, hogs, and crops for over 60 years before retiring from farming in 2017. Known for his hard work and kind nature, Lowell was always willing to lend a helping hand to friends, neighbors, or anyone in need.

Lowell married Wilma McCarthy Nelson in 1957, and they had four children. They divorced, and Lowell found love again and married Stella Ladouceur in 1981.

Stella was his partner, wife, and full-time caregiver during the later years of his life. She provided loving, exceptional care and ensured he could socialize, taking him out every day to the Donut King, Lisbon Diner, or Subway to have a meal with many friends and the countless superb servers who waited on them over the many years, right up to the last week of his life.

Lowell is survived by his wife of 44 years, Stella; his children Wayne (MaryJane) Nelson of South Carolina, William (Darlene) Nelson of Lisbon, MaryAnne (Steve) Connell of Virginia, and Michelle (Gary) Snell of Parishville; and his stepsons Steve (Kathy) Ladouceur of Carthage and Darren (Heidi Dutcher) Ladouceur of Fort Worth, Texas.

Lowell is also survived by his grandchildren Emily (Chris) Boettcher, William (Sara Kerr) Nelson, Alaina Nelson, Tyler Nelson, Patrick (Christina) Nelson, Nicole (Matt) Bright, Megan (Tucker) Brown, Lucas, Emma, and Clare Snell, Vanessa (Kyle) Libby, and Ryan (Maddison) Ladouceur, and 17 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Royal, sister Mary (Paul) Campbell, sister-in-law Celeste Nelson, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, brother David, sister-in-law Joan Nelson, and grandson Jared Nelson.

The family wishes to acknowledge the outstanding care he received at Claxton Hepburn Medical Center and the Hospice care team, Hope, Jon, Peggy, Candace, and Edie.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hospice of St Lawrence Valley or the First Presbyterian Church of Lisbon.
