MASSENA — The Massena Artists Association (MAA) officially opened its 2025 Juried Art Show on May 17 with a public reception and awards ceremony held at the Massena Public Library. This annual event highlights the work of MAA members and other artists from across the North Country, featuring 78 pieces submitted by 32 participating artists.
The exhibit is free and open to the public through Friday, June 6. Many of the artworks are available for purchase, with proceeds going directly to the artists. Those interested in buying art may inquire by contacting maapresident2024@gmail.com.
This year’s entries were judged by local oil artist Rita Goodwin and Julie Pratt, Education Manager at the Frederic Remington Art Museum.
Laura Timmons received the Best in Show award for her piece titled “Octo-gone.” First place awards were given to Eileen Boots in Acrylic for “Everett’s Home,” Therese Stone in Drawing for “Fairy Garden,” Laura Timmons in Mixed Media for “April Showers,” Steve Cobb in Oil for “Standpipe,” Joanne Deleel in Pastel for “Blaze of Glory,” Beverly Patchin in Photography for “Quiet Harbor,” Ron Morrow in Sculpture for “All Decked Out,” and Patty Bedlam VanPatten in Watercolor for “Blue Corn Flower.”
Second place honors went to Carolyn Cook in Acrylic for “Lost My Lash,” A.J. (Jim) Murray in Drawing for “Meow,” Aimee Douglas in Mixed Media for “Wish You Were Here,” Jackie Sheehan in Oil for “Jersey Shore,” Anne Ray in Pastel for “Clothes Line Ice,” Kathleen Hyde in Photography for “Timeless,” Welby LaPointe in Sculpture for “Ranger & Friend,” and Sally Kirby in Watercolor for “Giraffe.”
Third place awards were presented to Genie Rounds in Acrylic for “The Budding of Spring,” Welby LaPointe in Drawing for “Junkyard Jewel,” Carolyn Cook in Mixed Media for “I Think So…,” Lisa Minnich in Pastel for “Flying South,” Thomas Robarge in Photography for “Dock on Beach with Canoe,” Carol Bracy in Sculpture for “Cicada Life Cycle,” and David Crowell in Watercolor for “Across the Oswegatchie.”
Honorable Mentions were awarded to Lindsay Baker in Acrylic for “Logan” and Sally Kirby for “Kingfisher,” Marie Engels in Mixed Media for “Blood in the Cracks,” Cheri Furnace for “Mary’s Flowers,” and Donna Heath in Photography for “Afloat.”
The Massena Artists Association will present two additional shows later this year. An Oversized Art Show is scheduled for early fall (exact date to be announced), and the MAA Membership Show will be held from October 18 through November 8.
