To the Editor:
John C. Maxwell once said, “leadership is influence.”
On Saturday, October 26th students in National Honor Society and Key Club at Norwood-Norfolk Central School worked together to host a haunted house for both children and adults. This community event was well attended and tons of fun.
Part way through the evening, the fire alarm sounded; immediately each student involved acted quickly to help guide attendees (children and adults) outside.
Three NNCS students, Brock Cousineau, Kesley Coller and Matt Nolan, who all volunteer as junior firefighters for the Norfolk Fire Department, jumped into further action. These students worked together to double check bathrooms, open doors for air, and direct traffic.
This leadership and service is inspired by and modeled after our community’s volunteer firefighters. Thank you to the Norwood and Norfolk Fire Departments for responding to our alarm and helping to get our haunted house restarted. Thank you for your daily service to our school and community and for teaching our youth to do the same.
As advisors, we were proud of all the students for putting on this wonderful event; we never imagined how much that pride would grow as we witnessed true leadership and teamwork from our students, staff and local fire departments.
