OGDENSBURG - Joseph J. “Joe” Mastine, age 65, of Ogdensburg, NY, passed away on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, surrounded by his three children at University Hospital in Syracuse. Per his wishes, there will be no services. A burial of his ashes and celebration of life will be announced later this spring.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.
Joe is survived by brother James (Ron) Mastine, his children, Charity Amo and her husband, Jon, of Ogdensburg, NY, Sarah Bouchey and her husband Christopher of Sterling, VA, and Matthew Mastine and his wife, Jennifer, of Waddington; his grandchildren Caiden and Gavin Amo and his fiance Renée Breault, Zoey and Blake Taylor, Rosalynn and Korie Hollis, and a grandson on the way. Niece Alicia Crossman and husband Ben. Great nephew Cameron Crossman and several cousins. He is also survived by his beloved dog, “Bear”.
In addition to his parents, Joe is predeceased by two brothers, John Mastine at infancy and Rodney “Babe” Mastine in 1997.
Joe was born on August 17, 1959, in Ogdensburg, NY, the son of the late James Edward Mastine and Hazel Marlene (Buttermore) Mastine. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy in 1977. A marriage to Kermita Hughes in 1981 later ended in divorce.
Joe was employed by Agway Energy in Heuvelton as a HVAC Technician until 2004 due to an injury sustained at work.
Joe loved riding his Harley-Davidson Motorcycle, NASCAR, NY Giants, and Syracuse Orangemen Football and Basketball. He loved Rottweiler dogs, he had the company of many over the years, he enjoyed watching television and was a longtime supporter of Doug’s Tavern.
Joe and his family would like to thank his many medical providers over the years, especially Dr. Jaitly. The staff of Claxton-Hepburn Medical Center, The Ravinder Agarwal Renal Center and Upstate Hospital for their excellent, skilled and compassionate care. It always made all the difference during his final years and many hospitalizations.
