MASSENA – Joseph A. White, 82, passed away Friday morning, April 25, 2025 at Massena Hospital.
Joe was born on August 18, 1942 in Potsdam, the son of the late Eli and Viola (Monroe) White. He attended schools in Potsdam, graduating from Potsdam High School. Following his graduated he enlisted in the United States Air Force, proudly serving his country until his honorable discharge. On July 1, 1978, he married Sharon Turcotte at the Newman Center in Potsdam with Rev. Bernald Kellogg, officiating. Sharon predeceased him on May 2, 2012.
Joe was a self-employed meat cutter for many years. He was a former member of the American Legion and attended Grace United Methodist Church for many years. He enjoyed watching Western television shows, his dogs, fishing, and spending time with his family. He will fondly be remembered for his quick wit, ability to give everyone a nickname, and his gift to instigate people, snickering all the while.
Joe is survived by his children, Patricia and Dale Olson, Karen White, and Jonathan and Jenna White, all of Massena; his grandchildren, Jessica, Jordan, and Kyle White, Dakota Phelix, and Porter and Eleanor White; a great grandson, Grayson Taylor; his brothers, Robert and Phillip White; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a son, Michael on April 22, 2013; a great grandson, Aiden Michael Joseph Riley on February 22, 2017; and his siblings, Carol Ackerman, Gerald White, Shirley Burlingame, Dorene Davis, Raymond White, and Lillian Alvarez.
Arrangements are under the care and guidance of the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where friends may call on Tuesday 4-7:00 PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:00 AM with Rev. Judy VanKennen, officiating. Burial will be in Winthrop Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Massena Fire Department or Norfolk Fire Department.
