HOBE SOUND, FL -- Jerry James Ferrar (JJ), aged 97, of Hobe Sound, Florida, died on May 31, 2025, in Acworth, Georgia. He was born in Rochester, New York, on September 6, 1927, the son of Jerome and Sarah Ferrara.
He is survived by his daughter, Elaine (John) McDonald of Acworth, Georgia and his sons, Douglas (Sarah) Ferrar of Huntington Station, New York, Mark Ferrar of Spring City, Pennsylvania, and David Ferrar of Acworth, Georgia; his grandchildren, Tim McDonald, Caitlin McDonald, Robert Ferrar, Jessica Burnett, Keri Hooper, David Ferrar, and Jonathon Ferrar; his great-grandchildren, Madison, Harper, Ethan, Arya, Abby, Tilly, Charlie, Lily-Jane, and Poppy.
Jerry earned a degree in business and met his future wife, Jane Olmstead of Lake Ozonia, St. Regis Falls, New York, while a student at Michigan State University.
After graduating, he joined IBM, marking the beginning of a long and successful career in sales and technology. Though officially retired many years ago, Jerry never truly stopped working. The stock market combined with the rise of online trading became his new passion and pursuit.
Affectionately nicknamed the Energizer Bunny by his children and the Go-Go boy by his wife, Jerry had a mind and body that was seldom at rest. He was always in motion, thinking, learning, doing, and going. We often wondered how someone so old could be so young, but the answer was clear: It was his relentless energy and zest for Life.
His drive and perseverance were unmatched. Whether it was business or family he never gave up on the people or things that mattered most to him. He deeply loved his family, and his passing leaves a profound void in our lives. We will remain forever grateful for his strength, his unique and irrepressible spirit, and above all, his love.
A private celebration honoring his life will be held this summer at Lake Ozonia. For those wishing to do so a memorial contribution can be made to the Potsdam Humane Society, 17 Madrid Avenue, Potsdam, New York 13676.
