MORRISTOWN - Jack Thomas Wylie, 87, of Clifton Springs, NY, passed away on March 27, 2025. He was a Family man, Educator, Scouter, Church Leader, and Builder.
Born on April 7, 1937 in Morristown, NY, Jack was the son of Mary Pray and James Harold Wylie. He graduated from Morristown Central School in 1956 and later earned his Bachelor's degree from SUNY Oswego. He dedicated his career to education, first teaching at BOCES for 3 years before becoming a Professor and College Advisor at SUNY Canton, where he retired after 23 years.
Jack proudly served in the United States Air Force for 4 years. A dedicated mentor to young people, he coached Little League, served as a Webelos and Boy Scout leader, was a Boy Scout Master Chairman and received the Silver Beaver Award for his dedicated service.
Jack was an active member of the Presbyterian Churches in the many communities where he lived. He served as an Elder and Trustee, donating his time and talents to his church and community.
Throughout his life, both before and after retirement, he took pride in his construction projects, completing additions and renovations in Ogdensburg, Canton, and New Bern. His craftsmanship and generosity were evident in the Carolina rooms and home improvements he built for friends and acquaintances.
Jack was an avid golfer who loved sharing the game with others. His golfing highlight was playing the “Old Course” in Scotland. He enjoyed boating and swimming on the St. Lawrence River and had a love for travel. A dedicated sports fan, he cheered on SU, Notre Dame, the NY Mets, and the Buffalo Bills. Some of his happiest years were spent living along the 8th fairway in New Bern, NC, for 14 years.
Jack was a devoted husband of 67 years, to his beloved wife and best friend, Margaret Davies Wylie. Together, they built a life full of service, friendship, and adventure, making wonderful friends in each community they called home.
He is survived by his children, David (Lori) Wylie, Diane Wylie Brown, Phil (Karen) Wylie, and Mary Kathryn (Brian) Coakley; his grandchildren, Miranda, Alyssa, Jenna, Brittany, Bryant, Peter, Ryan, Claire, Lauren, and Griffin; and his great-grandchildren, Charlotte and Camryn, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his eight siblings.
A memorial service will be held on May 10, 2025, at 1:00 PM at the Presbyterian Stone Church, 533 Stone Church Road, Ogdensburg, NY, with burial to follow at the Davies Family Cemetery overlooking Black Lake.

Jack unselfishly served his family, his country, the community, and the youth, with complete dedication and enthusiasm.
He will be deeply missed.
