Hunts Point man who crashed into Ogdensburg house named; now inmate at county jail

OGDENSBURG – The St. Lawrence County Sheriff's Office has released the name of an out-of-area man who failed to stop at the Port of Entry in Ogdensburg, fled a sheriff’s deputy and eventually crashed into a house at 115 New York Avenue.

Miguel A. Rodriguez , 35, Hunts Point, was charged with a felony count of third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal mischief, (causing more than $250 in damage), and third-degree unlawful flee a police officer in a motor vehicle.

The arrest stemmed from a report from US Customs and Border Protection agents of a red sedan with New Jersey plates failing to stop at the Ogdensburg Port of Entry when entering the United States from Canada. A short time later a deputy observed a vehicle matching the description and attempted to conduct a vehicle stop on this vehicle. The vehicle failed to comply with the deputy’s marked unit's lights and siren. The vehicle sped down New York Ave where the operator lost control and struck an unrelated vehicle and then drove into the house at 115 New York Ave.

Rodriguez who was taken into custody without any further incident. Through the investigation the vehicle was found to be reported stolen out of New York City, also located in the vehicle was a high capacity ammunition magazine and Billy club which are both illegal to possess in New York State.

Rodriguez was arraigned in the City of Ogdensburg court by Judge Marcia LaMay and was remanded to the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility on $10,000 cash bail and $20,000 bond. He is due back in court on a later date for further proceedings.
