EDWARDS -Funeral services for Hilda B. Friot, age 97, will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 1, 2025, at St. John’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Arthur Garno officiating. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery at a later date.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mrs. Friot passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 20, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Home.
She is survived by her children Richard (Jamie) Friot of Heuvelton, Lawrence (Linda) Friot of Edgewater, FL, Laura (Robert) Pirie of Heuvelton and Cynthia “Cinci” (Michael) Weaver of Heuvelton; her sister, Elizabeth “Buzzy” Burns of Rome, NY; 11 grandchildren: Douglas Soika, Carolyn Switzer, Andrew Friot, Alexis Nichols, Danielle Cogden, Joel Schneller, Kristopher Pirie, Darren Friot, Nicholas Friot, Daniel Friot, Justin Weaver, and Samantha Weaver; as well as many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Howard “Rip” Friot; her son, Howard “Joey” Friot; daughter, Anne Marie Soika; and brother, William Brown.
Born on August 4, 1927, in Edwards, NY, Hilda was the daughter of the late William G. and Mary (Matejcik) Brown. She graduated from Edwards High School in 1945 and continued her education at CCBI in Syracuse. She married Rip Friot on September 17, 1946.
During her working years, Hilda held positions at Diamond National as a secretary, St. Lawrence Psychiatric Center as an attendant, and later at Cambrey Courts Geriatric Day Care in Gouverneur as a mental health therapy aid, retiring in 1982.
Hilda was an active member of her community, involved in St. John’s Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and was a Past Matron of the Order of Eastern Stars. She also served as a United Helpers Board Member, Election Inspector, and was engaged with the Heuvelton Youth Commission.
