To the Editor:
Several years ago, the Town Board, of which I was a member, voted to enter into a collaborative relationship with the Village of Potsdam to support pickleball as a new sport and the only Town/Village sport intended for adult recreation.
I am so pleased that the sport turned out to be extremely popular. What I didn’t realize at the time I voted was that the leaders of the pickleball committee would immediately move ahead to figure out ways to give back to the community. Since its inception a few years ago, the Pickleball Committee has donated approximately $44,000 to worthy causes (like the Animal Shelter, Breast Cancer, Children’s Museum, and local Volunteer Fire Departments) by hosting tournaments.
Many thanks to the Pickleball Committee. Your hard work, generosity, and community mindedness are greatly appreciated. The local governments (Village and Town) are fortunate to have such dedicated, visionary leaders at the helm. You’re amazing.
