GOUVERNEUR — Gunshots forced state police to retreat during an alleged domestic dispute Sept. 5 on State Highway 58.
As the troopers arrived on scene, shortly after 9 p.m,, they reportedly heard gunshots and retreated to a safer area.
An investigation determined Jeffrey M. Putnam, 48, Gouverneur and the victim were involved in a verbal altercation which turned physical when Putman threw a ladder at the victim.
Putnam was charged with reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal possession of a firearm, police said.
Putman was taken into custody without incident, officers said.
Putman was arraigned in Gouverneur court and remanded to St. Lawrence County jail on $30,000 bail, police said.
