NORWOOD -- Graveside services with military honors for Frederick E. LaPlante, 93, a resident of 9 Baldwin Ave, Norwood, will be held in the Calvary Cemetery, Norwood at a later date.
Mr. LaPlante passed away Wednesday afternoon, June 11, 2025, at the Upstate Community General Hospital in Syracuse with family at his side.
Fred is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rita, Norwood; a daughter, Rochelle LaShomb, Norwood; his two grandchildren, Ryan LaShomb (Marjorie Barkley), Norwood and Lauren LaShomb (Todd Sharlow Jr.), Deerfield, NY; two sisters, Margie Ellen LaPlante Reynolds and Kathryn Peabody, both of Star Lake and a brother, Carl (Bucky) LaPlante, Holley, NY.
Fred was pre-deceased by his parents and two daughters, Laureen and Denise LaPlante and his siblings, Rolphe, Paul, Kenneth, Maurice and Eva.
Born in Newton Falls, NY on September 29, 1931, to the late Ernest T. and Jennie L. Davis LaPlante, Fred graduated from Star Lake High School.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and married Rita Stanford on April 4, 1959, and worked as a mechanic in several places including Fiacco's in Norwood, Watson Chevrolet and Barstow Motors.
Fred also worked at Northern Mechanicals and later retired from Agway in Norwood.
Fred was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a lifelong member of the Raripaco Club in South Colton and a member of the Norwood American Legion, Post 68.
A special thank-you to his right hand man and grandson, Ryan and Marge for the many hours of kindness.
Rest in peace-- Freddy the Dog, your smile, smirk and mischievous look in your eyes will surely be missed by all that knew him.
