CANTON – Hurricane Debby has cut short the beach season at Taylor Park.
Canton Recreation Director Meghan Richardson reported this morning that the park is officially closed for the season.”
“I am sorry to report that Taylor Park Beach is officially closed for the 2024 season. The damage withstood from Hurricane Debby is non-recoverable for this summer,” stated Richardson.
Mayor Michael Dalton also told North Country This Week that damage at Taylor Park has forced officials to shut down the park for the summer.
On Saturday morning, the road leading into the park was completely under water, almost stretching to the entrance off the Miner Street Road.
Flooding was so severe that a swift water rescue team had to rescue a family stranded at a camp near the park.
This is the second time this summer that weather has closed Taylor Park. A major rain storm on July 12 flooded the park and beach area, closing the facility until July 25.
