HEUVELTON - Eleanor L. Chambers, age 92 of State Hwy 184, Heuvelton passed away early Wednesday morning (April 23, 2025) at her home. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (April 29, 2025) beginning with visitation at 12:00pm followed by a funeral mass at 2:00pm at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Heuvelton. Entombment will be at the Oswegatchie Crematory.
Surviving are her children Michael (Jenny) Chambers of Penn Yan, Stephen Chambers of Heuvelton, Peter Chambers of Tampa FL, Cynthia McCaffrey of Syracuse, Diane (Mitchell) Mattison of Central Square, Charlene Chambers of Ft. Dodge, IA; sisters Mary (Charles) Ames of Watertown, Theresa (Larry) Crowe of Heuvelton; brother Bernie (Nikki) Link of MA; 17 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren and several nieces, nephews & cousins.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold in 2017, a son Patrick in 1959, two daughters Angela Smith in 1995 and Patricia Kench in 2003; and three brothers Paul, Richard & David Link; and a sister Gloria Robinson.
Eleanor was born on February 8, 1933 in Watertown, a daughter of the late Everett & Edna (Chase) Link. She graduated from Heuvelton High School in 1951 and continued her education at the Harper Beauty School in Rochester. She was later married to Harold G. Chambers on August 16, 1952 at St. Raphaels Church with Fr. Romual Reiter as celebrant.
Eleanor worked briefly as a hairdresser in Ogdensburg, raised her family worked two years at the Ames Department Store craft department from 1992 to 1994 and then part- time at the Fox Funeral home answering phones.
She was a member of the St. Raphael’s Catholic Church and Altar & Rosary Society, taught Sunday School for 16 years, and was a secretary of the PTA at Heuvelton Central School. She enjoyed dancing, socializing with friends and family, sewing, crafts of all kinds and reading.
Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, St. Raphael’s Church or the Heuvelton Volunteer Fire Department First Responders. Condolences and fond memories can also be shared online at www.foxandmurrayfuneralhome.com.
