GOUVERNEUR -- Dorothy L. Travis, age 85, of Gouverneur, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2025, surrounded by her loving family after a short illness.
As per Dorothy's wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service, a graveside service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, 33 Park Street, Gouverneur.
Dorothy was born July 21, 1939, in Gouverneur, the daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Jackson) Robillard of Gouverneur.
She attended Gouverneur Central School and graduated in 1958.
On November 14, 1959, she married George E. Travis at St. James Catholic Church in Gouverneur.
Dorothy worked at the Triangle Shoe Store and B.O. Kinney before becoming a full time homemaker.
Together Dorothy and George managed many rental properties in and around Gouverneur.
Dorothy loved animals, especially cats, and owned several over the years.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She also enjoyed going to garage sales around town.
Dorothy is survived by two sons, George (Georgie) and Steven Travis, both of Gouverneur, a daughter, Karen (Kay)/ and son-in-law, Mark Smith, of Gouverneur, four grandchildren, Justin (Angie) Travis of Massena, Nathan Travis of Gouverneur, Jordan (Taylor) Smith of Queensbury, and Jacey (TJ) LeConey of Gouverneur, three great-grandchildren, Aria Smith, Landon LeConeY1 and Brynlee LeConey; five sisters, Joanne McCabe of Norwood, Rose (Charlie) Hyde of South Carolina, Peggy Tulley of Queensbury, Lynn (Richard) Patton of Gouverneur, Laurie (Kevin) Roberts of Gouverneur; a brother, Arthur (Artie) Robillard and several nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is predeceased by her husband, George, who passed away March 4, 2025, her parents, and her step mother, Marie Robillard of Gouverneur.
Memorial donations in Dorothy's memory may be made to Friends 4 Pound Paws, 55 Owl Road, Gouverneur, NY 13642.
