MASSENA- Donna Marie Donnelly of Massena passed away peacefully at Canton Potsdam Hospital on April 4th, 2025. She was being treated there for an ongoing illness. Donna was born on March 21st, 1950, to the late Emily Marie (Herne) Allen and Warren Grant Allen. Donna went to Madrid Waddington high school.
On September 25th, 1971 she married Lyle R. Donnelly in Waddington. They were married 50 years until his passing in 2021.
Donna was a homemaker and stay- at -home Mom. She enjoyed cooking. Her cabbage rolls and homemade Thanksgiving dressing became favorite dishes that were loved by her family and friends. Every Spring she would help Lyle plant their big vegetable garden at their Louisville home. Donna loved all animals, especially her cats. She always had a soft spot for the stray ones who ended up on her doorstep. She will always be remembered for her kind heart, sassy spirit, and humble giving nature.
Donna loved her husband and family very much. She is survived by her four children: Lisa and Scott Hall of Massena, and their children- Ashley and Wesley; Sherri Donnelly of Massena, and her children - Lauren and Leanne French; Bobby and Barbara Donnelly of Atlanta, GA and their children-Samuel, Emily, Erika, and Alyssa; and Michael Donnelly of Watertown.
Donna is survived by four sisters: Diana Jenkins of Massena, Wanda Maskal of Scranton, PA; Edith Allen Brown of Buffalo, and Brittany Allen of Massena. She is survived by three brothers: George Allen of Frisco Drive, AR; Ricky Allen of Fowler, and Adam Allen of Syracuse. Donna is also survived by her brothers and sisters in law: Dennis and Diana Donnelly of Louisville, Gladys and Gary Cross of Massena, and Floyd and Carol Donnelly of Brasher Falls. She has several nieces and nephews. Her beloved cat “Blacky” will miss her as well.
Donna was a beautiful soul and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved her.
There will be no funeral services at this time, but a celebration of life is being planned for her at a later date.
Donations may be made in Donna’s memory to a local animal shelter.
