Gov. Kathy Hochul said she will likely submit a bill later this year to ban smartphones in New York schools in an effort to keep children safe and make sure their attention is on learning. If the bill is submitted, lawmakers can vote on it in next year's legislative session. In a survey of the United Federation of Teachers, two-thirds of educators said they support a student cell phone ban -- but with conditions. Cellphone lockers, with the cost covered by the Department of Education are the preferred method of keeping devices out of classrooms, according to the survey. Right now, cell phone usage in public schools is on a school-by-school policy.
Do you feel cell phones should be banned in all St. Lawrence County classrooms?
