To the Editor:
As you travel this summer, noting places where you slow for construction, be aware that much of these road and bridge improvements are funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law passed by the 117th Congress, with Democrats in the majority, and signed into law by President Joe Biden in November of 2021.
This law is a historic and badly needed investment in roads, bridges, water, broadband, transit, ports, airports, rail, and EVs, creating thousands of jobs across the nation, including here in the North Country.
We’ve all passed under those bridges with crumbling cement and other signs of deterioration. This bill was overdue and thankfully is now benefiting New York and the nation.
We thank Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand for voting for this investment in our future.
Although it was a bipartisan bill, Rep. Elise Stefanik opposed this bill that benefits the North Country’s road infrastructure, water systems in both Massena and Watertown, coming broadband, and et cetera, all of which provides badly needed jobs in the North Country. For the record, her 2024 opponent, Paula Collins, would have supported that bill and would support other bills that benefit the region’s economy and well being.
Vote Blue in November.
