LAWRENCE— State Police say a Copenhagen man was killed in a car versus tractor-trailer accident in the town of Lawrence yesterday afternoon.
The two-car crash took place at about 1:45 p.m. Thursday, June 20, on county Route 55 in the town of Lawrence.
State Police report that Jerry B. Flanders, 78, of Copenhagen, was pronounced deceased on scene following investigation of a car struck by a tractor-trailer at the intersection of County Routes 54 and 55.
According to State Police, Flanders was traveling eastbound on County Route 54, when he failed to yield the right of way, and his vehicle was struck by a tractor trailer, traveling southbound on County Route 55, operated by John S. Sharpe, 43, of Norfolk, NY.
Sharpe was not injured.
State Police say that after the vehicles collided, the tractor trailer struck a utility pole, and both vehicles came to a stop in a field on the east shoulder of County Route 55.
The investigation remains ongoing.
