POTSDAM – Cinema 10 continues its fall 2010 season on Monday, Oct. 25 with a showing of “A Prophet,” or “Un prophète” a 2009 film directed by Jacques Audiard about the prison “education” of a young criminal.
Prisons are institutions of higher learning when it comes to training young criminals for lives in organized crime.
Thin and vulnerable Malik El Djebena is sentenced to six years in a French prison.
There, he is protected by a Corsican gang leader who sees Malik’s potential and teaches him how to climb the prison hierarchy through a series of “missions.”
Malik learns all too well, and has surprises even for his teacher.
Marjorie Baumgarden of the Austin Chronicle says, “A Prophet is the kind of film that makes you remember why going to the movies can be a thrilling experience.”
Films are shown on Mondays at 7:15 p.m. in the Roxy Theater in Potsdam.
Tickets are $4.50 general/$35 season or $3.50 student/senior/$25 season.
