POTSDAM – Cinema 10 at the Roxy in Potsdam will screen Nickel Boys (United States, 2024, d. RaMell Ross), a 140-minute rated PG-13 film on Feb. 10 at 7:15 p.m.
Uniquely shot through first-person perspective, Nickel Boys tracks the bond formed between two boys who are sent to a reform school that’s infamous for its abusive treatment of its students in 1960s Florida. Based on the Colson Whitehead novel of the same name, it is the narrative feature film debut of documentarian RaMell Moss. Reviewing for Variety, David Canfield praised the film, saying “ [its] avant-garde approach is cannily balanced by its moral urgency and aesthetic rigor. …It all but reinvents the language for movies about a particular, dark historical chapter.” (thematic material involving racism, strong language including racial slurs, violent content, smoking).
General Admission: $6.50 for individual and $55 for season tickets (shareable).
Students and Senior Citizens: $5.50 for individual and $45 for season tickets (shareable).
