POTSDAM -- Cinema 10 continues its Spring 2025 season on Monday, March 17 with a screening of Sugarcane, a 2024 Canadian film directed by Emily Kassie and Julian Brave NoiseCat, at 7:15 pm at the Roxy in Potsdam.
Sugarcane is an investigative documentary that probes the Canadian Indian Residential school system, its history of abuse, and the survivors left to deal with the fallout. Serving as both a call for accountability and a first-hand account of tragedy, this documentary has received dozens of awards nominations; its directors were awarded for their work at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024.
“[The directors give] the survivors the platform to talk while understanding that some things are too hard to put into words,” Dan Einav, Financial Times.
Sugarcane runs 107 minutes. It is rated R (thematic elements, language).
General admission: $6.50 for individual and $55 for season tickets (shareable!).
Students and senior citizens: $5.50 for individual and $45 for season tickets (shareable!).
