This June, the St. Lawrence Power & Equipment Museum in Madrid invites you to step back in time and celebrate the region’s rich agricultural and mechanical heritage during its annual Spring Exhibition weekend.
Running Saturday and Sunday, June 14-15, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., this family-friendly event offers two full days of hands-on history, fun competitions, kids’ activities, and one delicious barbecue you won’t want to miss.
The museum’s entire campus will be open both days, with every building filled with stories, artifacts, and demonstrations. Explore the Blacksmith Shop, visit Fort Tribute for live reenactments, or watch the sawmill and shingle mill in action. Vendors will be set up in the main pavilion, and the Attic Treasures Sale will offer unique finds all weekend long.
A highlight of Sunday’s events is the Chicken BBQ Dinner, starting at 12 noon and serving until it’s gone. Always a crowd favorite, the BBQ draws visitors from across the North Country—so be sure to come early before it sells out!
Back by popular demand, the Women’s Skillet Toss takes place Sunday at 11 AM. Open to all women ages 15 and up, this high-spirited competition is judged on the best of two throws using a real 8 lb., 9-inch skillet. It’s free to enter, broken into five age groups, and prizes are awarded to the top throwers. Whether you’re participating or cheering from the sidelines, this event always brings big laughs and great memories.
There’s something for every young visitor. On Saturday, kids can take part in the Kids’ Quest scavenger hunt, ride the Cow Train, visit the petting zoo, enjoy face painting, and more. On Sunday, a brand-new event makes its debut: the Mölkky Yard Game, open to ages 7–16 in the Equine Building. It’s a fun and interactive way to introduce kids to this popular Finnish outdoor game.
