Cecropia moth spotted in Pitcairn

Posted

A cecropia moth, a member of the giant silk moth family, was spotted on the side of a chicken coop in Pitcairn recently, apparently without much sense of self preservation. The species is North America's largest native moth with a wingspan of five to seven inches and often found in the Northeast. The cecropia moth lives for about two weeks. NCTW photo by Adam Atkinson.
