CANTON – Canton’s recreation director is hoping to land a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile to renovate the Buck Street Playground.
Meghan Richardson told members of the town board Monday night, Jan. 13, that she has applied for funding through the T-Mobile Hometown Grant Program. She said the playground is in need of repairs.
It’s a well utilized playground, even in the winter,” said Richardson.
T-Mobile is offering awards up to $50,000 for shovel-ready projects for outdoor spaces. Towns with a population le3ss than 50,000 can apply. The town had to include plans, budget, timeline, anticipated impact and up to five letters of support in the application.
Richardson, in her monthly report, also noted she will be submitting an application to the annual Stewart’s Holiday Match grant with hopes of receiving money to support the recreation department’s summer drop-in program.
Her report also mentioned that nine open skating sessions were held free of charge courtesy of Canton VFW Post 1231 and Grasse River Real Estate.
On the ice, the Canton Recreation Department loaned their 1984 Olympia ice resurfacer to St. Lawrence University on Jan. 1 when their Zamboni broke down.
