History was made at Canton Central School with its first Section X swimmer to win a State title at the NYSPHSAA Girls Swimming Championship in Webster Nov. 18.
Canton Central swimmer Gretchen Braun, of Lisbon, is the new State and Federation Champion in the 100 Backstroke. She achieved an All American Consideration Time of 55.46 and set a new league record.
Braun also finished the 100 Free with a time of 51.10 earning All American Consideration and a 3rd place overall finish.
Canton’s Kaitlin Redfern finished the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.36, setting a new Section 10 record. She finished 9th in the state.
Redfern also finished in 15th place with her 100 Breaststroke time of 1:07.12.
The 200 Free Relay team from Canton including Tessa Alguire, Maya Thomas, Kaitlin Redfern and Gretchen Braun set a new league record with a time of 1:41.39 and finished 21st.
Canton's 400 Free Relay team of Lexi Stuntz, Skyler Sanderson, Tessa Alguire and Gretchen Braun finished with a time of 3:48.52 in 20th place.
Canton's 200 MR team of Lexi Stuntz, Kaitlin Redfern, Maya Thomas, Tessa Alguire finished 26th with a time of 1:55.66.
Lexi Stuntz, of Canton, finished the 500 with a time of 5:27.62 in 23rd place.
St. Lawrence Central School’ s Ella Bellinger finished the 200 Free in 23rd with a time of 2:03.19.
Ella Bellinger, of Canton, was named Section X Good Sport Award Winner, and Maya Thomas, of Canton, was recognized as a Scholar Athlete.
