CANTON—The village Department of Public Works has received a collection of new work zone safety equipment through a state grant.
New traffic cones, hard hats, vests, and signage were among the items furnished to the village through the Cornell Local Roads Program as part of a grant from the state Governor's Traffic Safety Committee.
The village of Canton was one of 30 municipalities awarded the safety equipment out of roughly 75 applicants.
Canton’s town highway department and the Town of Rossie also received safety packages through this round of awards.
Each package contains about $1,900 worth of equipment.
The Work Zone Equipment Package Grant is intended for highway departments that have lost, damaged, or are otherwise in need of work zone equipment.
