CANTON— A $4.5 million award will fund five projects intended to improve community spaces and businesses in downtown Canton.

Nature’s Storehouse, the TAUNY Center, and the Midtown Plaza project on Miner Street are among the recipients of the awards, which will help make community-centered upgrades and are intended to drive economic development

A total of $497,000 has been awarded to Nature’s Storehouse to expand the business into a “holistic health hub.”

The renovated space at 19 and 21 Main Street will feature a “community health hub,” additional food offerings, health products, and seating areas for customers, while also renovating upper-story residential units.

The TAUNY Center was awarded $100,000 to improve the building’s facade and interior for accessibility and functionality.

An $807,000 award has been earmarked to Transform 11 – 11 ½ Riverside Drive into a “commercial fitness hub.”

The project will turn a partially vacant building into a commercial fitness center and studio space to provide health and wellness opportunities to the community.

Canton’s Village Green will receive enhancements thanks to a $1,096,000 award. The project will improve pathways, lighting, and seating at the park to create a “year-round space.”

The Midtown Plaza project has also been awarded $2 million to support the redevelopment of the Miner Street site into a mixed-use residential and commercial space.

Canton Village Mayor Michael Dalton expressed his gratitude, saying he is “incredibly excited to witness the positive changes these projects will bring.

He added that these projects were identified as having “the greatest potential to jumpstart revitalization and generate new opportunities for long-term growth.”

Assemblyman Scott Gray also commended the funding announcement, saying the investments are a “vital step toward strengthening our downtowns” and will enhance Canton’s “vibrant academic and cultural setting.”
