CANTON— Canton Fire Department members have trained in rescue techniques used in the event of a grain bin emergency.
The training course was held Wednesday, Oct. 8, and allowed members from multiple St. Lawrence County to practice with a model grain bin, an increasingly popular piece of agricultural equipment on North Country farms.
“With the proliferation of grain bins for farm storage, this equipment and training is vital,” former Canton Fire Chief Robert Crowe said.
The course was sponsored by Cornell Cooperative Extension of St, Lawrence, Jefferson, and Lewis Counties and was led by by an instructor from the National Education Center for Agricultural Safety (NECAS).
