CANTON — Canton Fire has kicked off Fire Prevention Week with school assemblies at both the Sienna School and the Banford School, according to Canton Firefighter Dan Aldous.
The fire station was set up for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten tours, he said.
Firefighters also visited the Canton Housing Authority high-rises on Riverside Drive and building 1 at Law Lane, dropping off brochures on fire safety and oven mitts to help keep residents safe.
Aldous said firefighters are working with the kids on the three P’s, planning, prevention and practice.
Planning includes having working smoke detectors, having two ways out, and a meeting place.
Prevention is not playing with matches, keeping the area around space heaters clear, and staying out of the kitchen when mom or dad is cooking.
Practice is practicing home fire drills with the whole family.
