CANTON— Senior Canton Central School track and field runner Salma Moumen broke the school’s record for the two-mile run at a running competition in the Bronx last weekend.
Moumen ran the two-mile stretch in 11:04:95, breaking the school’s previous record of 12:02.32, set in 2017.
Moumen’s performance took place at the Nike Indoor National Championships at the Armory in the Bronx on March 14.
She placed eighth out of 38 runners in the national event.
Canton Track and Field Coach Kris Boettcher said he “could not be more proud of what Salma has achieved” noting that this is only her second season running track.
“She is one of the most hard working individuals that I have ever coached and is a natural when it comes to distance running. In her very short time as a distance runner she has experienced the highs and lows when it comes to our sport and has persevered through it all. She is both humble and focused and has learned much when it comes to this sport,” said Boettcher. “She put this fully on display in NYC when she competed against a strong group from across the country. Seeing her take 8th at a national level will be something I can never forget and if she continues to run in college I know she will do great things.”
