DEKALB — Bryan Thompson will present a talk on the War Maneuvers that involved 80,000 troops and were held in August of 1940 in St. Lawrence County.

He will speak at the Meetinghouse Museum, 696 East De Kalb Rd., at 7 p.m. on June 16.

The lecture is free and everyone is welcome.

These maneuvers involved the entire First Army of the United States and was one of the few times in history that our area was in the national spotlight.

Trains unloaded at various deports with the largest number of soldiers, 17,000, detraining at DeKalb Junction.

Camps were set-up, battles were staged and tourist brochures were printed.

The fields of local farmers were the site of scrimmages, and businesses worked to provide for the number of visitors.  Thompson will bring the event to life for the audience.
