Allen J. Wilson, 64, Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR -- Allen J. Wilson, 64, of Potsdam died unexpectedly on Monday, August 5, 2024 at the Canton-Potsdam Hospital after being stricken ill at home. He was in the company of his wife Linda.

Al was born January 1, 1960 in Gouverneur, a son of the late Delbert and Joyce (Boshane) Wilson. He graduated from Gouverneur Schools. In his younger years, Al worked on various farms in the Gouverneur area prior to becoming employed by St. Lawrence University in grounds and maintenance, from which he retired in 2015. On April 5, 2003, Allen married Linda LaPointe in Potsdam.

Al enjoyed hunting, fishing, old tractors and travelling, especially to Kentucky to see family.

Al is survived by his beloved wife Linda of Potsdam, two daughters, Mary Fields and Brandy Patrick, grandchildren James Carter Fields, McKencie Fields and Madison and great-grandchild Payton Whitehead, all of Kentucky; siblings, Mark Wilson of Gouverneur, Penny (Dale) Fishel of Fowler, Kath (Cliff) Gill of Cranberry Lake and Robin Ruiz of Michigan. Also surviving are in-law’s Welby (Jean) LaPointe, Dennis (Linda) LaPointe, Kimberley Ann Willits and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Delbert and Joyce, Al was predeceased by a sister, Linda Fishel and a brother-in-law Raymond LaPointe.

A Celebration of Life will be planned and announced at a later date.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff in the Emergency Room and Critical Care Unit at Canton-Potsdam Hospital for their care of Al and compassion offered to Linda.
