GOUVERNEUR – Alice E. (Youngs) Weldon, age 94, of Gouverneur, passed away on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at Gouverneur Hospital.

Her funeral service will be held on Monday, April 28, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. at the Gouverneur First United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Hailesboro Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home in Gouverneur. Condolences may be shared online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Alice was born on February 4, 1931 in the VanDuzee Hospital in Gouverneur to the late Randolph C. and Beulah A. (Hilton Reynolds) Youngs. She graduated from Gouverneur High School in 1948 and from Ogdensburg Practical School of Nursing on September 21, 1971, earning her L.P.N. She married Douglas W. Weldon on March 2, 1949 at the Gouverneur United Methodist parsonage. Doug passed away on September 24, 2022.

Mrs. Weldon worked as an L.P.N. for 12 years, including for Home Health Care and E.J. Noble Hospital while working on her and Doug’s dairy farm.

She was a member of the Gouverneur First United Methodist Church where she served as lay speaker and enjoyed Bible studies, United Methodist Women where she served as President for 28 years, was a member of the Choir, and Gouverneur Gardening Club from 1982 to present. Alice also enjoyed gardening, nitting, and sewing. She was a member and volunteer for Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Gouverneur Neighborhood Center.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Larry and Lisa (Curcio) Weldon, Diane (Weldon) and Charles Williams, Danny and Gina (Carbone)
Weldon, Teresa (Weldon) and Scott Gillan, daughter-in-law, Jane (Morrill) Weldon, and siblings, Joan L. (Youngs) Kinney, Lynn B. Youngs, Lona B. (Youngs) Rastley, Wanda M. (Youngs) Bailey, and Wiley J. Youngs. She is also survived by 29 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband, Douglas; a son, Steven Weldon, brothers, Clifford L. Youngs, Wallace A. Reynolds, Hugh R. Reynolds, Bruce A. Youngs and Randolph C. Youngs, and a grandson, Joseph Weldon.

In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer to have donations in memory of Alice may be made to the Gouverneur Neighborhood Center or Gouverneur Volunteer Rescue Squad.
