Akwesasne native Terrance traded to New York Rangers

AKWESASNE -- Top prospect and Akwesasne native Carey Terrance is a New York Ranger following a trade that will send veteran Chris Kreider to the Anaheim Ducks. 

The news broke June 12 after Kreider signed his no-trade clause, sending Terrance and a third-round draft pick to the Rangers in exchange for Kreider and a fourth-round pick. 

Terrance was selected 59th overall in the 2023 NHL draft, landing in the second round after recording 52 points during the 2023-24 OHL season.

He also is among OHL leaders, tied for third in shorthanded goals with five, while leading the Otters in goals and shorthanded goals as well. He ranks fourth in points.

He had 20 goals and 19 assists with the Erie Otters of the OHL this year, for whom he also served as captain. 

In his OHL career, Terrance has a total of 162 points in 230 games, including 89 goals and 73 assists, according to nhl.com.

Terrance also won back-to-back world junior championship gold medals with Team USA in 2024 and 2025, playing a pivotal role as one of the team's top centers both years. 

He also won gold with Team USA at the 2023 U-18 World Championship.

Terrance also has the distinction of being the ninth Mohawk Nation skater drafted by an NHL team, according to nhl.com.
