Before you call Time Warner Cable employees lazy and overpaid (NorthCountryNow.com survey, Nov. 28-Dec. 5), why don’t you try to climb a pole when it’s 20 degrees below zero? Why don’t you climb through crawl spaces and basements up to 14 hours a day? Try going a few miles in their wet, heavy workboots. Before you make a call that your “TV is fuzzy” on Thanksgiving or Christmas or New Year’s Day, think about the “lazy” service technician that needs to leave his family and his children to come to your house, only to find that your cat chewed on the cable. If you’re so worried about rate increases, stop booking trouble calls for ridiculous things. Do you know how much money it costs to pay the tech to get there (and they make less than $15 an hour--for skilled labor) just to find out that you unplugged your DVR? About $200. It’s your money you’re spending. Sure, the employees like the overtime pay, but I also love being able to celebrate Christmas with my family without someone calling because they unplugged their own DVR.
