O.K. that one Sound Off that said “Tough!” (“Consolidation Needed,” June 15-21) was a bit harsh regarding the consolidation of the Potsdam village. Honestly, what person here hasn’t voted down a budget that cost someone their job or demanded no raises or health insurance to cut costs. We all have been haters at one point. Having said that, the 2000 Census said that there are about 16,000 townspeople (let’s hope all old enough to vote) so when we do have a say, then we too can dissolve the brush pick up, sidewalk snow removal, fire, police and rescue and that horridly expensive library tax. I pay $200 just for the library! It will be upsetting to lose so many jobs and with one government we will lose so many voices that create our beloved democracy. But this is what’s happening everywhere, and I have yet to find anything saying that it helped or resolved some burdens. I only have one voice so please start groups in your area to get petitions signed so when our time comes, we will be ready.
