In response to “BOCES Study Slanted,” (Sound Off, May 25-31) you should be ashamed of yourself! You obviously do not have complete knowledge of the variety of programs BOCES offers and how valuable they are to our youth. Speaking as a mother of a child with a disability, please, tell me where “in the community” are individualized educational services offered to children with autism? Where “in the community” will my son have the oversight of a special education teacher, an occupational therapist, a speech language pathologist and many trained aides that work 1:1 with these children 5 days a week? The BOCES curriculum is anything but “lackey” and without the ABA program, my son would be lost and the average public school system “in the community” would never be able to bring him back. At the age of 4, he is a very bright, loving child, and his BOCES family and I work every day to help him overcome his weaknesses. This is my thank you to the BOCES employees, and my disgrace to the person who slandered their name.
