CANTON - A St. Lawrence County grand jury on Monday handed down a second-degree murder indictment against a Richville man charged in an alleged May 4 fatal shooting in DeKalb Junction.

Charles M. Anson, 51, was also indicted on charges of first-degree manslaughter, first-degree assault, and first-degree criminal use of a firearm.

Police investigated the shooting at 580 County Route 18, town of DeKalb, that resulted in the death of Justin Massey, 40, Rossie.

Anson’s son John Anson, 29, Richville, was originally facing a second-degree murder charge but it was later dismissed by St. Lawrence County District Attorney Gary Pasqua.

According to witness reports, the younger Anson and Massey were fighting over a woman.

In other grand jury action:

Mason Reisinger, 19, Carthage, was indicted for two counts second-degree manslaughter, two counts second-degree vehicular manslaughter, and two counts of driving while intoxicated. The charges stem from a crash Oct. 3 in the Town of Pitcairn that claimed the life of Isaiah Thomas, 20, of Watertown. Police reports said Reisinger was the operator of a car on State Highway 3 when he reportedly lost control of a 2006 Toyota Tundra. Both Reisinger and Thomas, a rear-seat passenger, were ejected when the truck overturned. Reisinger has undergone multiple surgeries since the crash. His BAC was reported to be 0.09. In New York State, a driver is deemed to violate DUI laws when he or she drives with a BAC of 0.08% or higher. Two other passengers in the vehicle suffered less serious injuries.

Media Provost IV, 36, Massena, was indicted on three counts of predatory sexual assault, three counts of first-degree criminal sexual act, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Provost was charged with numerous charges, including rape, sexual abuse and assault in April following a four-month investigation.

Dominic Mashaw, 19, Jade Harper, 45, and Melinda Montroy, 35, all of Ogdensburg, were each indicted on one count of third-degree unlawful manufacturing of methamphetamine. The three were charged in February following a disturbance complaint on Grove Street.

Rachel Nickels, 36, Hopkinton, was indicted for fourth-degree grand larceny. Police allege Nickels stole a vehicle from a protected party. That vehicle was found overturned on Rt. 11B in the town of Hopkinton.
