To the writer of “School Bus Commentary” (Jan. 19-25): Yes, and you walked to school both ways uphill in 40-degree below weather. Be real. Yes, you grew up on a farm and got up at 4 a.m. each day and did your chores. I grew up on a farm and my dad did that and worked an eight hour day job as well. This is not how things are today. If kids had to do that today, someone would turn them into social services and then the parents would be brought up on abuse charges. I agree that school buses seem to stop every few feet to pick up children. In my day when houses were close together they met at a gathering place. However, parents complained about this. They wanted their kids picked up at their door. They did not want to take the chance of kids getting hurt. The saying was we pay school taxes we deserve this service. Everything has changed. We need to take a look at all the expenses of schools and see where they can be cut. I am sure with the new governor and his talk of cuts to education this will be the forefront of all schools. You may very well see bus stops in places where houses are close together. I believe in the future we will see many changes in the way schools will be doing business.
