I realize the need to cut expenditures in the Potsdam school district. What I don’t understand, however, is the teacher bashing going on, based primarily on the health coverage issue. I am not against their contributing more to the plan, as I am certain the teachers themselves would readily agree. What the public doesn’t see is what riles the emotions of the teaching community. For years the Administration, Board of Education and the teachers and support staff had a very healthy relationship. But with a board with it’s own problems, an administration whose main concern is satisfying the board, and an ever-increasing power shift from the teachers to the students, morale is at an all-time low. I would not be surprised to see some sort of reconciliation between board, administration and staff if the problems I just mentioned could be ironed out. Even to bring them to the table for discussion would be a huge weight off everyone’s shoulders. The real issue isn’t healthcare, it’s creating a healthy working environment.
