On my way home from work tonight, a pedestrian was walking along the side of the road just up from Walmart on U.S. Rt. 11 heading towards Potsdam. He appeared to be a young man with a backpack and he was dressed mostly in black. I had just merged into the right lane when I saw him and I had to swerve into the left lane to avoid hitting him. A man was recently killed walking along the side of the road at night near Ogdensburg and when I read about that my heart went out not only to the man killed and his family, but also to the driver of the car who hit him who will carry that with him or her for the rest of their life. Pedestrians, if you can’t afford reflective gear, please, at the very least wear light colored clothing so drivers can see you. You are not only putting your life in danger, you are endangering the lives of people in their cars who have to swerve to avoid hitting you.
