The (county) public meeting over the 2 percent property tax cap was nothing more than a joke. The majority of the people who attended have a vested interest in raising taxes because they are mostly county workers or organizations who are funded with county money. Come on, give us a break, if the legislators expect us to believe that the make up of the meeting was anything but one sided they must certainly think we are all stupid. Why don’t the legislators take a close look at the North Country Now survey that asks the question how we feel about exceeding the 2 percent cap? The results are a whopping 82.9 percent against exceeding the 2 percent, that’s 82.9. I am willing to bet they will increase the tax cap, and this is all a dog and pony show so they can say there was overwhelming support by the community. Again, organized labor pooling together for their own interest. Nobody cares about the people in the community finding it harder and harder to make ends meet.
