I want to respond to the Friday March 30 Sound Off, “Leave Police Alone,” in regards to the Garrett Phillips murder investigation. When I was living in and going to college in Cazenovia, we had a very similar case occur in the summer of 1992. I remember it like it was yesterday because it was the day after my birthday. His name was Sean Googin and he was killed in what used to be the village/town summer festival that no longer goes on as before because of his death. He was killed by a level 3 sexual predator from Oneidawho had been released and was on parole at the time of this incident. He was sexually sodomized, strangled, weighed down with rocks and dropped to the bottom of Cazenovia Lake. It wasn’t solved until 10 years later when the individual was found through DNA analysis that was much less sophisticated a science than it is today. I would hope that with the advances that have taken place in the science of DNA analysis since then that it doesn’t take anywhere near as long to solve as well.
